Pharmacies in Central Zagreb and the broader city core were often located in prominent buildings designed in Art Nouveau and historicist styles. In 1923, there were 20 pharmacies, and ten more opened in the 1930s. Notable pharmacies included the Salvatoru Pharmacy (Jelačić Square 2), the Foundation Hospital Pharmacy (Jelačić Square 1), the K Sv. Trojstvu Pharmacy (Ilica 43), the Red Cross Pharmacy (Ilica 79), and the K Angjelu Pharmacy (Preradovićeva 6).
The interior layout of the pharmacies and its furniture were strictly regulated by public pharmacy regulations. The interior design, with suitable furniture and pharmaceutical equipment, played a key role in attracting customers and establishing the pharmacist’s reputation. Some pharmacies changed owners, names and locations, and after 1945, all were nationalized.
