Zagreb City Dairy
The tradition of organized milk processing in Zagreb dates back to 1912, when the City Dairy, a private company for the sale of milk, cheese and butter, was founded in Duga Street (today's Radićeva Street). The milk was delivered to households. In 1924, the Croatian-Slavonian Economic Society opened its own dairy, Baltic, in Zagreb, and in 1926, the cooperative organization Samopomoć also opened a dairy. In 1936, most of the dairies in the city and surrounding area joined the Union of Dairy Cooperatives and the Economic Unity. In 1940, the Ban's government and the Zagreb government reorganized the dairy industry into three large plants, which after World War II merged into the City Dairy Zagreb. It has been operating at Branimirova ulica 67 since 1948, and in 1952 it was moved to a location in Žitnjak, where, with the help of UNICEF, a new large-capacity factory for processing milk and dairy products according to hygienic and technical standards was built. In 1955, the company changed its name to Zagrebačka mljekara, and in 1972 to OUR Dukat. In early 1994, Dukat was transformed into a joint-stock company majority-owned by the Lura company. In 1999, Dukat merged with Sirela and Mljekara Zadar. In 2007, it changed its name to Dukat mliječna industrija d. d. and became a member of the Lactalis group.
