Royal Privileged Zagreb Joint Stock Liqueur Factory – formerly Franjo Pokorny
Zagreb, Vlaška 67
The factory was founded by Franjo Pokorny in 1862. The high quality of its products was soon known on markets outside the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy. The products, among them the famous Pelinkovac, were exhibited at international fairs in Paris, Vienna and London where they deservedly won high prizes and awards.
In 1893, the factory was sold to a new owner who continued the production under the same well-known and reputable name. In the 1930s, a new logo was created bearing the initial P which appeared on posters and bottle labels designed by Pavao Gavranić (1905–1973), one of the pioneers of our applied graphic design. After World War II the factory continued production and in 1950 merged with the company Marijan Badel.
