The production of soda water in Zagreb was particularly developed in the 1920s and 1930s. ‘The R. Lauš First Zagreb Soda Water Factory’, was located at Kaptol 23, producing soda water and raspberry syrup. The privately-owned soda water factory ‘Josip Krčelić’ produced various refreshing non-alcoholic drinks. Soda siphons were reused and, once empty, taken to soda water producers for refilling.

The First Croatian Soda Water Factory, which was a joint stock company that primarily supplied cafés, taverns and inns, was an industrial company for soda water production.
