Between the two world wars, London and Paris were centres of the cosmetics industry. Around 1930, 11 drug stores in Zagreb imported fragrances and care products from prestigious cosmetics companies. One of the oldest was ‘Nobilior’, a drug store and perfumery which produced its own products, including creams, soaps, perfumes, and toothpaste. Its stores were located at Ilica 34 and Jelačić Square 15. Perfumeries and their products, often with English and French names, were advertised in magazines. These ads included product descriptions, illustrations, and often photos of contemporary American actresses who represented the ideal of beauty.
