In 1886 the factory was founded as a joint venture of Zlatko Gavranović and the reputable Jewish family Rosenberg. This was the first cognac factory to adopt the French production method. All equipment was imported from France and company’s first engineers were French as well.
The best-known product of Patria was Patria Brandy Medicinal, packed in flasks with a recognisable label, taken over in the 1950s by Marijan Badel.
After World War II the company was nationalised and from 1950 continued operation under the name Marijan Badel.
