Union Confectionery and Chocolate Industry
Zagreb, Branimirova 21
The factory was founded in 1902 by Zagreb merchants Slavko Deutsch and Julije König. It started out as a confectionery shop in Kurelčeva Street.
In 1911, the owners had a new building constructed in Baroševa Street (now Branimirova 21). Right up till the outbreak of World War II it was the leading confectionery factory for the production of superb quality sweets and chocolate products. The raw material used was the raw coconut. Modelled on Swiss chocolate industry, it introduced the production of all types of chocolate. The factory invested considerably into packaging. A famous example is the tin candy box with views of Zagreb and other towns. Up to this day it has retained its popular product 505 with Line and its packaging.
In 1947 it merged with the factories Grič and Mirim and, in 1950, with the biscuit factory Josip Kraš.
